Sleep apnea testing, education available

Jan. 17, 2013

Aeroflow Healthcare and Enrollment First have partnered on a new sleep apnea management program that provides testing and education.

Clients of Enrollment First, which provides custom-made insurance enrollment options for businesses with unique insurance needs, will have access to Aeroflow’s sleep disorder testing and treatment solutions.

Aeroflow provides a turn-key solution for screening, testing, treatment, and compliance management of sleep disorders specially designed for members of the transportation industry. Utilizing in-home diagnostic sleep testing and telemedicine appointments allows for drivers to be tested and set-up on treatment with minimal to no time at all spent out of their truck, the company said.

The partnership between Aeroflow and Enrollment First will allow the thousands of Enrollment First clients direct access to Aeroflow’s services giving owner-operators the same level of high quality health care that larger carrier drivers receive through employee benefit packages.

“We understand the concerns of independent contractors and have real solutions for their needs. We care about a healthy America – that’s why we offer flexible, comprehensive wellness programs and meet you where you are – at the truck stop, in the cab, or even in your home,” said Hazen Mirts, president & CEO of Enrollment First.

Sleep apnea is a form of sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) occurs when the muscles of the throat relax obstructing the airway. The airway obstruction causes the level of oxygen in the blood to fall, increases stress levels on the heart, elevates blood pressure, and prevents the person from entering REM sleep (the restful and restorative stage of sleep). Risk factors that significantly increase the occurrence of OSA include being overweight (BMI of 30 or greater), large neck size (17 in. or greater for men and 16 in. or greater for women), smoking and alcohol use, and family history of OSA. Additionally, there are key symptoms associated with OSA that include loud snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, disturbed sleep (i.e. waking frequently gasping for air), and frequent morning headaches.
