Nominees sought for most influential women in trucking

Jan. 18, 2013

The Women In Trucking Assn. (WIT), in conjunction with Navistar, are seeking nominations for the 2013 Influential Woman in Trucking award.

“Historically, the trucking industry existed as a male-dominated environment, however, more women are now enjoying rewarding careers as drivers, managers, and executives,” said Ellen Voie, WIT president & CEO. “The Women In Trucking Assn., with the support of Navistar, created an award to honor the women who have been instrumental in creating change and providing leadership within the trucking industry.”

The first Influential Woman of the Year distinction was given to Rochelle Bartholomew Gorman, CEO of CalArk International, at a ceremony held during the Truckload Carriers Assn. (TCA) annual meeting in March 2011.

“Women today have the opportunity to lift each other up in ways that provide inspiration, leadership and encouragement that may not have existed when I entered the industry,” said Gorman. “We are now trusted to promote the good and positive image of the trucking industry.”

Last year, more than 100 women were nominated, representing a variety of leadership positions in the trucking industry. The 2012 honor went to Joyce Brenny, president of Brenny Transportation and chairman of the Minnesota Trucking Assn.

Nominations are being accepted through Jan. 31 for the 2013 Influential Woman in Trucking award. Candidates are defined as women who make or influence key decisions in a corporate, manufacturing, supplier, owner-operator, driver, sales, or dealership setting. Nominations may be submitted online at www.womenintrucking2013.org.

The individual must have a proven record of responsibility and mentored or served as a role model to other women in the industry. The woman does not have to currently hold the position for which her work is nominated, but she must be a living individual.

Three finalists will be invited to attend the awards ceremony at the Truckload Carriers Assn. annual meeting March 3-6 in Las Vegas, where the winner will be announced.
