Expect delays around Orlando due to road closures this week

Jan. 22, 2013

Florida Dept. of Transportation officials have announced several road closures drivers can expect to deal with in Orlando this week, especially during overnight hours near the attractions. All work will be done during overnight hours (9:30 p.m. -5:30 a.m.).

According to a WDBO News report, the following highway work will result in road closures:

The Wildwood Overpass Project:  Work will begin between State Road (SR) 535 and Central Florida Parkway Tuesday night, Jan. 22 through Friday morning, Jan. 25. Eastbound and westbound I-4 lanes are affected. Overnight closures start with a single lane closure, gradually expanding to a double and triple lane closure on both sides of the interstate. Motorists use a temporary lane during the triple closure. All lanes are scheduled to reopen each day in time for the morning rush.

I-4 Paving Project: Installation of rumble strips continues on the westbound lanes of I-4 of Orlando's south side, from east of Conroy Road to east of Sand Lake Road.  All work is occurring Jan. 21 through Friday morning, Jan. 25. There will be single lane closures on the outside lanes on the westbound side of I-4. All lanes are scheduled to reopen each day in time for the morning rush.

I-4 Braided Ramp Project: Contractors will be installing girders as they make headway to complete the relocation of the eastbound I-4 ramp to Osceola Parkway near Celebration on I-4 between US 192 and Osceola Parkway in Osceola County. All work will be taking place (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) Sunday night, Jan. 20 through Sunday morning, Jan. 27. This will impact all motorists attempting to enter eastbound I-4 from US 192. Detours are in place, and motorists are directed to Osceola Parkway as an alternate route to eastbound I-4.

Longwood: New traffic patterns begin on SR 434 as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues construction between I-4 and Rangeline Road. From Monday, Jan. 21 through Friday, Jan. 25, inside lane closures occur in both eastbound and westbound directions. Eastbound traffic is also moving to a section of new pavement as the project continues.

The Florida Dept. of Transportation says inclement weather or other circumstances could delay or prolong work.
