Weather forecasters are predicting a snowstorm along the I-95 corridor from New York City to beyond Boston could become a blizzard of potentially historic proportions and could drop between 1 to 2 feet of snow beginning today.
National Weather Service meteorologist Alan Dunham told the Huffington Post that southern New England has seen less than half its normal snowfall this season, but “we’re going to catch up in a heck of a hurry,” with 1 1/2 to 2 feet forecast.
“Everybody’s going to get plastered with snow,” he said.
The snow began Friday morning, but the heaviest snowfall is expected Friday night into Saturday, the Associated Press reports. Wind gusts could reach 65 mph. Widespread power failures are feared, along with flooding in coastal areas still recovering from Superstorm Sandy in October.
