Tracking it

Sept. 9, 2014

Volvo Trucks has opened its first “Customer Experience Track” in North America at its New River Valley assembly plant in Dublin, VA.  It consists of a 1.1-mi. paved road course with an off-highway demo area sited within the tracks’ infield.  The OEM said it was set up “to better enable Volvo to showcase its extensive range of Class 8 vehicles during customer tours and special events at the plant.”

The paved course—complete with banked corners—enables drivers to reach highway speeds with road tractors while the off-highway area offers a variety of surfaces and grades to simulate demanding environments for vocational trucks.  Volvo noted that employees were engaged in the track’s construction.

“The Customer Experience Track is built to simulate real-world driving conditions and provide our visitors with the opportunity to experience firsthand the quality and performance of Volvo trucks,” said Goan Nyberg, president of Volvo Trucks North American sales & marketing.  “Getting behind the wheel to experience our vehicles is the ultimate way to complement a tour of our New River Valley manufacturing facility.”
