September 16, 2014: Happy birthday; electric garbage truck; thanking truckers; food truck ban

Sept. 16, 2014

Here is a look at what is happening today in the world of trucking:

  • Just a few short years ago – 106 to be exact – General Motors was founded. The automaker celebrates its birthday today, as the Auto Channel reports.
  • Domestic Fuel reports on the push to offer E15 gasoline and how it might lead to a lower price at the pump.
  • Chicago is really cleaning up with a new all-electric garbage truck, powered by a system from Motiv Power Systems. Clean Technica has the story.
  • The California Highway Patrol is offering a special thanks this week to truck drivers in honor of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, says the Orange County Breeze.
  • Food trucks are all the rage these days and sell everything from grilled cheese to pizza to tacos and more, but in Boston, there is one item the trucks cannot sell: soda. BostInno reports on the ban, issued by the city’s mayor.
  • A Tennessee resident has transformed a 1948 GMC truck into a rat rod racer as part of a nationwide contest. The local paper, the Crossville Chronicle, details the 30-day transformation.
  • A stretch of I-75 in Florida could be widened if state transportation officials have their way, reports WWSB ABC 7.
