Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), pollster Neil Newhouse and ATA chief economist Bob Costello will be among the speakers at the 2014 ATA Management Conference & Exhibition, the American Trucking Assn. (ATA) announced.

MC&E will be held Oct. 4-7 in San Diego, CA.

Panel discussions will include a look at the impact of congestion and deteriorating infrastructure on trucking. In addition, MC&E will feature eight educational sessions for fleet executives on topics ranging from driver recruiting and retention to fuel efficiency and future trucking technologies.

“The program we’ve assembled for this year’s MC&E is one of the strongest we’ve ever had,” said Bill Graves, ATA president and CEO. “We’ll be tackling important issues like safety, the economy, driver recruiting and retention, congestion and the upcoming midterm elections. It promises to be an important and informational meeting.”

Blunt will speak on the reauthorization of the highway bill, long-term solutions to the Highway Trust Fund, the hours-of-service restart rule, and other important issues for the trucking industry. Newhouse, who works for Public Opinion Strategies, will discuss current political trends and the perception of the trucking industry, and Costello along with other economists will provide an economic update.

Also, for the first time, ATA is hosting a series of “Talk with the Expert” forums at the ATA Pavilion in the Exhibit Hall. These intimate, informal discussions will allow attendees to meet and discuss important issues with many of ATA’s subject matter experts.
