September 30, 2014: Toyota recalling trucks; Ram boosting 1500 Ecodiesel production; Walmart blames Tracy Morgan

Here is a look at what is happening around the world of transportation today:

  • Toyota has issued a recall of some 690,000 Tacoma pickups because the rear leaf springs could break, potentially causing a fire, says the Associated Press.
  • MainStreet provides a list of the best diesel-powered pickups and cars Americans can buy today.
  • Walmart has filed court papers in a lawsuit filed by actor Tracy Morgan, who was injured in a New Jersey crash involving one of its trucks. The retail giant is claiming that Morgan’s injuries were more severe because he was not wearing a seatbelt. The Sunshine Coast Daily has more.
  • The Detroit Free Press is reporting this morning that Ram will boost production rates of its 1500 with an Ecodiesel engine by 10% to meet sales.
  • A convoy of 26 tractor-trailers brought needed food, 80% of which came directly from the food industry, to a local charity in Connecticut this morning, says NBC Connecticut.
  • A California startup has supplied FedEx with new electric, drop-in powertrains for 25 of its vehicles under a pilot program, according to Wired.
  • Rush Enterprises has expanded its Abilene, Texas, location to service natural gas vehicles, says NGT News.
