For those searching for trucking-themed stories to read to their children before bedtime, try My Auntie Susan Drives a Big Truck by Susan Burton or Papa Doug Hauls Strawberries & Smiles, published by the Tennessee Trucking Foundation.
Burton, a 30-year veteran truck driver herself, said she came to write My Auntie Susan Drives a Big Truck in part after writing “hundreds of postcards and letters” to her Trucker Buddy classes “plus my nieces and nephews.”
“I noticed that all of these children really respected truck drivers and their work and that’s when I got the idea of turning some of these stories into a book for other children,” she added.
Papa Doug Hauls Strawberries & Smiles hopes to “plant an early seed” in the minds of children about becoming a truck driver later in life, noted Dave Huneryager, executive vice president of the Tennessee Trucking Foundation.
