Your May 14 Pre-Trip: Vermont company expands its horse-pulled trash service

May 14, 2015

Here are five things worth knowing today:

  1. A trash company in Vermont is expanding its service area. That, in itself, is not big news, but the types of vehicles the company uses are. The business operates a horse-pulled cart, traveling from home to home to pick up trash and recyclables, says the Burlington Free Press. It is not expanding from Bristol, VT, to add service in Middlebury.
  2. FedEx is out to change its image that it is unknowingly helping online drug factories deliver illegal drugs to dealers and addicts. The package delivery company is asking the government to turn over documents showing that it was working with authorities to stop the illegal trafficking of drugs, says BloombergBusiness.
  3. Class 8 trucks on the highways are expected to rise this year, says the Journal of Commerce, citing research from ACT Research. As many as 1.43 million trucks will traverse roadways this year, it said, up 5.8%.
  4. TheStreet.com tries to make sense of the latest freight data and explain why intermodal is dropping, trucking is rising, and spot rates are dropping.
  5. Southern California Gas Co. is hosting free workshops for truck fleets in the state interested in natural gas fueled vehicles, according to Trucking News Online.
