Velociti to sponsor student technician skills competition

Technology deployment services provider Velociti will be the exclusive sponsor of TMC FutureTech 2015, it said. TMC FutureTech is a competition for student technicians held annually in conjunction with TMC SuperTech. This year’s TMCSuperTech 2015 — held by American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council will take place the fall meeting, Sept. 21-24, in Orlando, Fla.“While the ongoing driver shortage gets a lot of well-deserved attention, the shortage of technicians at fleets is often overlooked,” said Deryk Powell, president of Velociti. “The shortage is further compounded by the need for staff that is trained to maintain and repair more complex vehicle systems. As part of the trucking industry, and for our business as well, it’s important that we do everything possible to help fleets address this challenge. Sponsoring TMC FutureTech 2015 is our way of supporting the effort to attract new technicians and the perfect way to celebrate our 20th anniversary serving fleet customers.”TMC FutureTech 2015 consists of a set of skill stations for technician students. This year, the student competition will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Winners will be announced the next day at the TMCSuperTech 2015 Awards Luncheon. Registration for TMC FutureTech 2015, for a fee of $200, is limited to 80 individuals. The registration deadline is Aug. 21, 2015.Velociti will present a starter toolbox to the top three student winners at the TMC SuperTech 2015 Awards Luncheon and present electric training boards to the schools of the top three winners during the TMC Annual Meeting in March.“For the first time last year, TMC held a technicians competition for students and we are happy that Velociti is stepping up and helping us expand this important program,” said Carl Kirk, ATA vice president of maintenance, information technology & logistics and TMC executive director. “Expanding our existing TMC SuperTech competition to students is a tremendous way to highlight the importance of recruiting young people into our industry and recognizing their efforts.
