DHL to offer U.S.-Mexico all-in-one LTL service

July 16, 2015

A new U.S.-Mexico LTL service is being introduced by DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight division with the Deutsche Post DHL Group.

Tim Robertson, VP-sales for DHL Global Forwarding’s U.S. operations, said in a statement that the new “Trans Border Connect” service is a “bundled solution” offering a single quote for pickup, line-haul, border crossing, cross-dock, border clearances and delivery.

“This new service offers customers who already do business in Mexico, or want to break into this market, the opportunity to have their goods picked up any day of the week via this new road freight solution,” he added. “With Trans Border Connect, DHL offers lower supply chain costs and simplifies billing, as well as end to end shipment visibility and provides a single point of contact monitored by experts in its centralized control tower in Laredo, TX.”

Robertson said Trans Border Connect is being rolled out initially for transportation to and from five strategic cities in the U.S. and Mexico, with all border crossings at Laredo, TX: Atlanta, GA; Dallas-Fort-Worth, TX; Detroit, MI; Los Angeles, CA; and Chicago, IL.

In Mexico, he noted shipment lanes are available to and from Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterey, Queretaro and San Luis Potosi.

Trans Border Connect is designed for all sectors and types of goods and services, though with several exceptions that can be quoted separately, including: hazardous materials, textiles, toys, finished electronic items, personal goods, shoes, garments, pharmaceuticals and art work.

Robertson noted that the key to Trans Border Connect is providing an “all-in” flat fee per pound, eliminating multiple carrier bills and hand-offs by acting as a single-source provider for door-to-door surface moves.

He added that the “leading sectors” currently using such transborder LTL services are the automotive, engineering, manufacturing and aerospace industries.
