Your Aug. 12 Pre-Trip: Success of Phase 2 GHG rule hinges on making vehicles affordable

Aug. 12, 2015

Here are five things worth knowing today:

  1. Any new truck fuel efficiency regulations must target affordability and performance, according to an article in Gas2, which highlighted remarks from Eric Jorgensen, chairman of the American Truck Dealers association. Jorgensen says new trucks must be units people want to buy.
  2. Investigators in Sacramento say nearly two dozen truck crashes are the result of a fraudulent truck driver training school which didn’t actually train drivers. In fact, reports CBS Sacramento, the location of the school is actually an empty field.
  3. Kane Freight Lines has sued Volvo Group North America after one of its natural gas trucks caught fire on Jan. 2, reports the Times Tribune. The carrier, which parked seven natural-gas trucks following the incident, claims in the lawsuit that Volvo and Cummins, who was also named along with Agility Fuel Systems, “altered sensors to conceal the problem and avoid a recall,” the paper wrote.
  4. GM held a public truck plant tour recently in Flint, MI, to celebrate 500 million vehicles rolling off the company’s assembly lines since 1908, says MLive.com.
  5. The value of used pickups is declining at a faster rate than automobiles, reports Auto Remarketing.
