Diesel climbs 6.4 cents this week

The price of diesel climbed sharply this week – up 6.4 cents to $2.556 per gallon from last week’s $2.492, according to the Energy Information Administration.

The price of diesel climbed sharply this week – up 6.4 cents to $2.556 per gallon from last week’s $2.492, according to the most recent data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA).This marks the second consecutive week prices have increased after a summer-long trend of declines. This week’s price is still $1.142 per gallon cheaper than the same week last year, EIA said. Diesel is up across the board, with prices on the rise in every region of the country. All regions remain under the $3-per-gallon mark. The Midwest region experienced the greatest increase – 14.5 cents to $2.634 from last week’s $2.489.Average U.S. retail pump prices for gasoline are also up, but only by 1.9 cents to $2.337 from last week’s $2.318. That is 87-cents-per-gallon less than the same week last year. Gas prices are nearly split across the board this week – down in four regions and up in five. The most significant increase is 3.9 cents in the Lower Atlantic, where prices went from $2.118 to $2.157. The most significant decrease is 5.3 cents in the Rocky Mountain area – to $2.424 from last week’s $2.477. All regions remain under the $3-per-gallon mark, according to EIA.
