FMCSA issues shut-down order to Garfield Trucking

Nov. 19, 2015
Agency says Ohio-based firm has continued operating despite two separate out-of-service orders, one of which dates back to October 2014.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently declared Ohio-based Garfield Trucking to be an “imminent hazard to public safety” and is ordering it to cease all intrastate and interstate operations immediately.

That order stems from an unannounced roadside safety inspection conducted on a Garfield tractor in Missouri last month; an inspection FMCSA said found a total of 43 safety violations, including 13 out-of-service violations that encompassed  improperly adjusted or inoperable brakes, defective brake components, cracked frame rails, load securement violations, and falsified hours-of-service (HOS) log books.

The agency added that inspection also revealed Garfield has been operating in violation of two separate out-of-service orders, one of which dates back to October 2014.
