SmartTruck names Ron Pope director of national accounts

April 15, 2016

SmartTruck announced the appointment of Ron Pope as director of national accounts. In this newly created position, Pope will report to Steve Smith, SmartTruck's vice president of North American sales, according to the company.

The position was created to focus SmartTruck's sales efforts on establishing, supporting, and growing relationships with the largest U.S. private and for-hire fleets, the company explained. A member of the SmartTruck sales team since 2013, Pope was considered "the best person for this new position, given his past experience and success in building relationships with these carriers," according to Smith.

"With SmartTruck's continued growth in the trucking industry, accompanied by an ever-growing industry focus on fuel economy, we are serving increasingly larger customers with complex needs," said Smith. "Our company is now better structured to meet the needs of these larger fleets, and Ron's experience is perfectly suited to captain these important relationships."

A veteran in the trucking industry, with over 40 years of experience, Pope was previously vice president of national accounts at Southern Cal Transport, SmartTruck said. Prior to that he held senior positions at Epes Transport System and Covenant Transport, the company added.
