Alcoa has named Merrick Murphy as President of the Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products (AWTP) business, reporting to Tim Myers, who recently assumed the role of Group President, Alcoa Transportation and Construction Solutions (TCS). The appointment is effective immediately. “Merrick’s laser focus on customers, innovation, growth and talent make him the ideal person to lead AWTP,” said Myers. “From sales to operations, he has served in nearly every part of the Wheels business, playing an integral role in its success over the years. I look forward to seeing Merrick build on this strong foundation in the years to come.” Prior to this appointment, Murphy was vice president and general manager for Alcoa’s Commercial Vehicle Wheel business in the Asia Pacific region. He earlier held the same positon in the Americas. In these roles, he oversaw the business unit’s regional operations, sales, distribution and growth agenda, building strong connections with AWTP customers and markets. “Nearly 70 years ago, Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products invented the forged aluminum truck wheel. Today, from the Ultra ONE to the Dura-Bright EVO, our innovation continues to lead the market – and reinvent the wheel,” Murphy said. “I could not be more excited to take the helm of a business I have proudly served for 16 years, and lead it to the next level of success.” Murphy will be based in Cleveland, OH, at AWTP headquarters.
