NTEA guide addresses trade issues between U.S. and Canada and offers trucking fleets a chance to have their questions answered.

NTEA – The Association for the Work Truck Industry recently released its Cross-Border Compliance Guide, prepared in collaboration with Dawson Strategic — an Ottawa-based research and consulting firm that specializes in advising business and government on cross-border and international trade issues. This report highlights the complexities and nuances of trade between the United States and Canada, specifically in regards to commercial vehicle importation and exportation, according to NTEA.

“With the United States and Canada continuing to be each other’s most important trading partner, the efficient movement of commercial goods across the border is critical to both countries’ economies,” said Steve Carey, NTEA executive director. “The association’s Cross-Border Compliance Guide is designed to help companies understand applicable requirements within the commercial vehicle industry and make the movement of commercial vehicles and related equipment between these two critical trading partners as cost efficient as possible.”

The guide covers timely issues and questions from association members in the United States and Canada. Regardless of where industry companies are headquartered, conducting business in either country is quite common, creating a need for heightened sensitivity and enhanced awareness for all parties involved, NTEA said.

Specifically, this report gives companies an understanding of:

  • Regulatory landscape in Canada
  • Customs classification and valuation
  • Rules of origin
  • Import and export procedures
  • Product safety
  • Taxes and trade
  • Moving demos across the border

NTEA members can download the Cross-Border Compliance Guide for free. A printed copy can be purchased for $99 (member) and $239 (nonmember). To get your copy, visit ntea.com/shopntea or call 800-441-6832.
