April 27, 2015

Here is a look at what is happening in the world of transportation this morning:

Truck drivers may take the day off after a long-running labor dispute at the port complex in Los Angeles and Long Beach, according to the Weirton Daily Times.

• A U.S. Court of Appeals found that trucking groups “lacked standing” to challenge the Environmental Protection Agency’s greenhouse gas emissions standards for tractor-trailers, Bloomberg BNA reported.

• Top executives at a Tampa-based trucking firm got big pay raises in 2014, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reported. The firm, Quality Distribution Inc., is on its way to becoming a $1 billion company, according to the report.

• Amid a driver shortage, trucking companies say they need hundreds of thousands of drivers over the next decade, but they are having a tough time attracting applicants. The Indiana Gazette has more.

• A Florida high school senior, who came in second place in the Miami Herald’s Business Plan High School Challenge, wants to boost veteran employment by starting a trucking company that employs only veterans, The Miami Herald reported.
