Transport America, a subsidiary of TransForce, was recently approved by the Department of Labor and the Veterans Administration to offer an Apprenticeship Program to military veterans.

According to the company, this program helps veterans transition from the military to the transportation industry. Military veterans who take advantage of Transport America's program will go through specific training over the course of one year which will prepare them to be a driver instructor and ultimately a student driver instructor. As a benefit, these veterans will be able to take advantage of the GI Bill to get additional pay for their increased skill level, the company added.

Transport America noted it currently employs over 2,100 office, shop and driver employees.  In the last three months alone Transport America said its percentage of employed military veterans has increased more than 7%.

"Military veterans have been a key to Transport America's success for many years. At Transport America veterans can capitalize on the valuable skills developed during their military service and find a new place to build a long-term career.  We are proud to be a part of this program to support our veterans to help them reach their goals," said Keith Klein, president.

On Friday, Nov. 11, in celebration of Veteran's Day and to salute one of its military veterans, Transport America held an event where they surprised one of their veteran drivers with a custom military truck wrap. According to the company, the driver has worked for Transport America since 1998, been a student driver instructor for the last 2 years, has driven over 2 million miles accident free and won Driver of the Year in 2015. "Transport America is a great company to work for. I really appreciate the military wrap and recognition," said Robert Harp, military veteran and truck wrap recipient.

"We know that it's important to military personnel to transition to a company that shares their fundamental principles and noble character.  Our veterans tell us that our core values of Safety, Integrity & Respect, Creating Success with a Positive Culture and Passion for Excellence makes them feel like this is a place they can call home," said Keith Klein, President of Transport America.  "We are honored to have many military veterans as drivers, driver recruiters and leaders throughout our organization.  Our veterans make us better and their efforts support us as we continue to be The Trucking Company That's Changing Trucking."
