Five good things that happened in trucking this week—Dec. 17

Dec. 17, 2021
Sneak peek: XPO Logistics donates $25,000 to Wreaths Across America, Nikola raises $104,000 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, CFI associates collect $39,000 for annual Truckloads of Treasures, and more.

In one week, people across the country will be excitedly awaiting Christmas morning to safely gather with family and friends, opening presents, drinking hot cocoa, and eating wonderful food. Those in trucking have been working day and night to make sure that happens. Here are five good things that happened in trucking this week.

XPO Logistics donates $25,000 to Wreaths Across America

XPO Logistics has expanded its support of military veterans by delivering 1,666 wreaths to veterans’ cemeteries this week in preparation for National Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 18. In addition to providing trucking services, the company will donate $25,000 to Wreaths Across America.

XPO drivers who formerly served in the military will make the deliveries to veterans’ cemeteries in Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia.

“We’re proud that our services for Wreaths Across America will be performed by XPO drivers with military experience, representing the values shared by Team XPO," said Drew Wilkerson, XPO’s president of North American transportation. "This is an opportunity to show respect for everyone who served.”

Nikola raises $104,000 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital

In its annual Toys for Kids campaign, Nikola Motor Co. raised $104,000 for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

In a tweet, Nikola shared thanks to their construction partner, Walbridge, for their generosity during the campaign, noting that the joy brought to the families of those at the Children’s Hospital is a reminder of what this time of year is all about.

Kids Around The Corner Foundation celebrates 12 Days of Christmas

Fleet Advantage and its Kids Around The Corner Foundation is continuing to support its community and several important causes through charitable donations this holiday season.

In its 12 Days of Christmas celebration, the company has announced the 14 organizations that received donations totaling $100,000 this year and is working to help raise awareness for each cause.

The 2021 recipients are:

CFI associates collect $39,000 for annual Truckloads of Treasures

Associates of CFI, an operating company of TFI International Inc., have raised $39,000, which will go to supporting 30 local charities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico that were nominated by associates and benefits underserved families, children, and the elderly.

The annual tradition, established in 1993, has collected more than $960,000 in associate donations, including the $39,000 raised in 2021.

Funds are raised entirely through associate donations. Due to the ongoing pandemic, CFI pivoted away from its typical in-person bake sales, chili cook-offs, and pie competitions in favor of a virtual donation platform.

“We’ve already adapted and evolved to provide consistent, reliable services to the business world, so with Truckloads of Treasures, we are bringing the same focus, perseverance, and grit to engaging our communities and raising money for key charities that support our fellow citizens in need,” noted Greg Orr, president of CFI.

“We live in extraordinary times, and I could not be prouder of our associates and their determination,” Orr said. “It would be easy to devote the bulk of our time and resources to our day-to-day professional lives, but community is about coming together and supporting those less fortunate—and what better time to do so than during the holidays.”

Kottke Trucking raises nearly $11,500 for Trucks and Toys

Employees, friends, and family of Kottke Trucking have raised $11,496 worth of toys and goods for Trucks and Toys.

The Buffalo Lake, Minnesota-based trucking company, family-owned and founded in 1938, operates 100 over-the-road trucks and more than 200 trailers at multiple locations in Minnesota, Florida, and Georgia.

“We want to send a big thank you to everyone who helped make this year another successful one,” the company noted in a statement. “Your work on this cause and your donations do not go unnoticed. Thank you all so very much.”
