Five Good Things: Independent drivers rewarded and families helped nationwide
Christian Sanchez Cantù wins Landstar’s 52nd truck giveaway
Landstar recently gave away its 52nd truck to a deserving independent Landstar business capacity owner (BCO), the company’s term for independent owner-operators who lease to Landstar. BCO Christian Sanchez Cantù won a Landstar blue 2026 Freightliner Cascadia during Landstar BCO Appreciation Days held this year in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Christian Sanchez Cantù from Laredo, Texas, was one of five finalists randomly selected from the contest’s pool of approximately 8,000 eligible BCOs.
“It’s always an honor to be part of this incredible tradition. Each truck giveaway is more than just a celebration. The giveaway is a moment to recognize the dedication and professionalism of our independent business capacity owners,” Frank Lonegro, Landstar president and CEO, said. “We’re proud to celebrate Christian’s commitment to safety, security, and service with this new truck. We look forward to seeing how this opportunity helps Christian continue along the road to success.”
Following the announcement, Sanchez Cantù stood in front of his new truck, sharing how the win marked a turning point in his journey as an independent owner-operator.
“This truck will greatly improve my ability to run my business,” he said. “I prayed I was going to win and that this event would be a positive day for me, and it was. I am very grateful and overwhelmed!”
Truck driver named TCA Highway Angel for rescuing trapped crash victim
The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has named truck driver Randy Fisher a TCA Highway Angel for helping trapped and injured crash victims. Fisher drives for ABF Freight out of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
On the morning of August 7, a traffic incident occurred on Interstate 29 near mile marker 57 in Saint Joseph, Missouri. Fisher, traveling southbound, witnessed a northbound vehicle make an unexpected U-turn, resulting in a T-bone collision with another northbound vehicle. Both vehicles crashed into the median, one rolling over.
“For whatever reason, he made an abrupt left turn like he was going to go across the median,” Fisher said. “His pickup truck flipped in the air one time, and when it hit the ground, it rolled two more times. The woman did two 360s on the highway.”
Fisher pulled over and rushed to assist. He safely removed the female driver from the overturned vehicle and ensured she was stable while calling 911. He then checked on the driver of the other vehicle, who was unresponsive, and assisted by stabilizing the truck with the help of two bystanders.
Once emergency responders from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the local fire department arrived, Fisher provided a statement and assisted in ensuring no passengers had been ejected from the vehicles.
“It’s just what I do,” said Fisher, who has been driving a truck for 27 years. “I see anybody in need—I’m there.”

Buyers Products helps support Greater Cleveland’s homeless community
Buyers Products recently participated in the annual 9/11 Day of Service, hosted by national nonprofit 9/11 Day, at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center.
For the past 24 years, 9/11 Day has worked to transform the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks into the largest annual day of charitable service in the U.S. Each year, more than 30 million Americans take part in volunteer activities that honor the lives lost by helping those in need.
“It’s truly inspiring to see our community come together to turn a day of sorrow and remembrance into one of hope and service,” Gwen Blagg, director of human resources at Buyers Products, said. “The 9/11 Day of Service gives us a chance to make a direct impact—bringing meaningful support to hundreds of individuals experiencing homelessness right here in Northeast Ohio.”
At the Cleveland event, volunteers assembled nearly 300,000 nonperishable, shelf-stable meals, which were delivered to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to help local residents at risk of hunger.
