US Xpress, PIT Group team up for on-highway fuel economy tests

Nov. 9, 2016

The PIT Group, a Canadian-based organization created to conduct unbiased efficiency testing, and truckload carrier US Xpress teamed up to conduct three days of fuel-economy comparison tests using the fleet's typical linehaul tractors running on public roads.  The tests used a 52-mi. route along Interstate 75 that began and ended at the US Xpress terminal in Tunnel Hill, GA.  The test fleet consisted of six tractors with different powertrain specs taken out of fleet linehaul service, plus two new preproduction trucks supplied by Navistar and Freightliner.  All hauled loaded trailers over the test route and were operated by US Xpress drivers.
