    Fresh Brands Inc, the Sheboygan WI-based supermarket retailer and grocery wholesaler, released results for its fiscal first quarter ended April 23, 2005.

    Fresh Brands Inc, the Sheboygan WI-based supermarket retailer and grocery wholesaler, released results for its fiscal first quarter ended April 23, 2005.

    Net sales for the first quarter of 2005 increased to $197,658,000, compared with $196,386,000 for the first quarter of 2004. Income from continuing operations was $212,000 for the first quarter of 2005, versus a loss from continuing operations of $696,000 for the first quarter of 2004. Net income was $212,000 for the first quarter of 2005, compared with a net loss of $1,694,000 for the first quarter of 2004.

    “We are pleased to report our third consecutive profitable quarter as we begin to realize the benefits of having closed or sold several of our underperforming corporate and franchise stores and as we continue to focus on establishing our value proposition,” said Louis Stinebaugh, Fresh Brands’ president and chief operating officer.
