Winn-Dixie Stores Inc announced financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended June 30, 2004.

During the fourth quarter of fiscal 2004, the Jacksonville FL-based food retailer had a net loss from continuing operations of about $2.1 million, compared with net earnings from continuing operations of $62.0 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2003. For the 2004 fiscal year, the company had a net loss from continuing operations of $50.8 million, versus net earnings from continuing operations of $236.1 million for the 2003 fiscal year.

Winn-Dixie incurred a net loss from discontinued operations of $20.6 million during the fourth quarter ended June 30, 2004, compared with net earnings from discontinued operations of $0.5 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2003. During the 2004 fiscal year, the firm reported a net loss from discontinued operations of $49.6 million, in contrast to net earnings of $3.1 million in fiscal 2003.
