Qualcomm Inc now provides driver authentication, wireless panic button, and tamper detection features for the OmniTRACS mobile communications system.

The driver authentication feature verifies driver identification and authorization to operate the vehicle through use of an ID and password with configurable alerts. The driver log-in is validated through over-the-air transmissions that interface with a secure database at the OmniTRACS Network Management Center. The wireless panic button extends the capability of the in-dash panic button by providing a wireless transmitter, which drivers can use if their safety is threatened while outside the vehicle. The tamper detection feature alerts fleet management or driver if an attempt is made to disable the OmniTRACS unit.
