American Isuzu Motors Inc announces its NPR Gas and NPR-HD Gas models for 2002. These are low-cab-forward trucks with gasoline-powered engines. Equipped with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine, both models deliver 250 horsepower at 4200 rpm and 330 ft-lb torque at 2800 rpm. Engine features include sequential port fuel injection, mass-airflow metering, linear EGR valves, and roller lifters. An engine oil cooler is standard.

Both NPR Gas and HD Gas are equipped with a 4L80-E Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission with fourth-gear lock-up converter and overdrive.

The NPR Gas has a higher GVW rating of 12,000 pounds with payload capacity ranging from 6,865 to 7,041 pounds, while the HD Gas is rated at 14,050 pounds with payload capacity of 8,770 to 8,946 pounds. With wheelbases of 109", 132.5", 150", and 176", both models accommodate bodies ranging from 12 to 20 feet.

The NPR Gas and NPR-HD Gas come with a standard 30-gallon fuel tank mounted between the frame rails. Power windows and door locks are a new, optional feature for N-Series models.

Design of the Isuzu low-cab-forward truck provides more cargo space within a given overall chassis length. The cab tilts 45° to allow access to the engine area.

The hydraulic brake fluid reservoir is at the left end of the dash. Fuses and electrical relays are accessible in the central dash and glove box area. The windshield washer bottle is on the passenger side at the end of the dashboard.

Daytime running lights and anti-lock brakes (ABS) both are standard on all N- and F-Series models. Cornering lights also improve nighttime visibility when turn signals are operated and headlights are on. Mirrors are positioned to improve driver line-of-sight. The fuel tank is inside the frame rails of the vehicle.

A standard two-way roof ventilator lets fresh air into the cab and evacuates stale cab air. Frequently used switches are illuminated. Also, non-slip entry step, grab handles, and a 90° door opening provide safety and comfort. An anti-corrosion treatment applied to the cab ensures longer service life.
