• Bulletin Explains Champion Battery Benefits

A new technical bulletin published by GNB Industrial Power explains features and user benefits of the second generation of its sealed, maintenance-free

A new technical bulletin published by GNB Industrial Power explains features and user benefits of the second generation of its sealed, maintenance-free Champion brand batteries for Class I (sit-down rider) lift trucks. Features of the company's Absolyte technology include:

    - Horizontal cell design: Battery cells have been engineered to operate in a horizontal configuration that allows 80% depth of discharge and efficient, reliable recharge times.

    - Absorbed electrolyte: The electrolyte in the Champion battery is absorbed in glass mat separators.

    - Proprietary grid/alloy design: Champion's patented MFX grid/alloy design allows deep discharges and ensures extended cycle life, as well as longer run times.

    - Pressure relief valve: Each cell has a relief valve to control the cell's internal pressure, a requirement for the efficient recombination of hydrogen and oxygen during charging. Valves are designed to open at about 5 psi and are self-sealing. A built-in flash arrestor prevents externally created sparks from entering the cell, which assures safe battery operation.

A cutaway drawing illustrates the Champion cell design and major components. The new Class I tray design is also shown.
