@Road Inc is providing the J1708 Vehicle Diagnostics service, giving fleet managers and dispatchers remote access to vehicle diagnostic information including:

  • Engine diagnostics to help identify and prevent maintenance problems.

  • Fault descriptions to maximize vehicle warranty and pinpoint malfunctions.

  • Separate driving fuel from idle fuel data to reduce state fuel taxes.

  • Driver behavior data to improve driver and public safety, and to help lower insurance rates.

The J1708 Vehicle Diagnostics service includes an in-vehicle J1708 connector, data translator, and a serial connection to the @Road iLM (Internet Location Manager). Engine performance and driver behavior data is collected from a vehicle's electronic control module, transmitted by the iLM over the wireless networks to the @Road data center, and then processed into meaningful information to produce real-time and historical reports such as trip detail, trip summary, and exception reports. @Road also plans to add OBDII support to provide similar reports for smaller vehicles such as vans and pickups.
