American Science and Engineering Inc (AS&E) has introduced its OmniView gantry inspection system for detecting security threats and contraband.
A relocatable system, OmniView combines high-penetration inspection with multi-view, photo-like imaging. Security authorities at ports, borders, and security checkpoints can inspect cargo while maintaining traffic flow.
OmniView’s scanning platform operates by moving on rails past stationary vehicles and cargo. The compact footprint accommodates limited space in congested areas and minimizes radiation exclusion zones. The bi-directional system allows about two trucks per scan, 24 trucks per hour. Multiple views provided by the Backscatter Module let the operator quickly and accurately interpret images.
The system employs two of AS&E’s patented technologies. Shaped Energy technology provides 6.0-MeV transmission X-rays for penetration of up to 350 mm (14 inches) steel. OmniView also uses Z Backscatter technology to supply easy-to-interpret, clear, photo-like images of cargo.
Optional radioactive threat detection is provided for identifying radioactive threats in vehicle and cargo containers.
