A cross-country produce express train made its inaugural run from Washington state to Rotterdam NY, reaching the eastern terminal 50 hours earlier than anticipated.

Operated for Railex LLC by Union Pacific Railroad and CSX Transportation Inc, the train left Wallula WA on October 19 and arrived October 22 at the Rotterdam terminal. It had been expected to show up October 24, according to Railex's Jim Kleist, general manager of the Washington terminal.

The 55-car train hauled 25 cars of Washington apples, 15 cars full of Washington onions, and 15 cars full of Washington potatoes, along with some pears from Oregon. Designed to replace 200 trucks, the Railex train will run once a week.

Railex is a unit of Ampco Distribution LLC.
