Retail giant Wal-Mart intends to expand its Monroe GA distribution center and add about 200 jobs in the area. The Bentonville AR-based company said construction at the Monroe facility, which distributes to stores in Georgia and South Carolina, should start in summer 2005 and conclude by spring 2006.

Wal-Mart has eight distribution centers, 26 discount stores, 81 Supercenters, and 21 Sam's Clubs in Georgia and employs more than 49,636 people. The Monroe distribution center currently has about 500 employees.
