Harrisburg PA-based Verdelli, a regional produce processor, has formed a forward distribution company called VF Express LLC. It comes only months after Verdelli formed a separate trucking company, VF Transportation LLC, and ahead of the Oct 1, 2001, completion of an expansion to Verdelli's headquarters that will provide new warehousing space.

VF Express is headed by Mike Blume, director of forward distribution. He has more than 16 years of experience with an independent wholesaler and one of the nation's top retailers.

Forward distribution is the process of bringing products to a centralized distribution center for further distribution. In VF Express' case, those products will arrive at its distribution center on Grayson Road, near Harrisburg, for subsequent delivery via VF Transportation to retail and food-service customers anywhere on the East Coast.

With VF's forward distribution, a California supplier could deliver its goods directly to the Grayson Road warehouse. Products would be delivered when the East Coast retailer needs them.
