    Birds Eye Foods Inc, the Rochester NY-based producer and marketer of frozen vegetables, has reported net income of $8.0 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2004, an increase of $4.2 million compared with $3.8 million in fiscal 2003. Net sales for the third quarter of fiscal 2004 were about $206.3 million, a decrease of $4.6 million, or 2.2%, versus $210.9 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2003.

    For the nine-month period ended March 27, 2004, net income totaled $23.1 million, a $4.1 million climb compared with net income of $19.0 million in the fiscal 2003 period. Net sales for the nine-month period ended March 27, 2004, were $644.5 million, which represented a decline of $23.4 million versus $667.9 million for the comparable period a year earlier.
