John F Baugh, who founded Houston TX-based foodservice giant Sysco Corp, died March 5, 2007, in San Antonio TX. He was 91.
Born and raised in Waco TX, Baugh worked at a local grocery store before moving to Houston, where he formed Sysco Corp. The firm now has more than 47,000 employees and ranks as the nation's largest restaurant food supplier. Baugh retired as chairman in 1985 but remained on the board of directors until 1997.
A founding trustee of Houston Baptist University and a director of the Baptist Foundation of Texas, he also donated $25 million to Baylor University. He served as a trustee and regent at Baylor from 1987 to 1996.
Baugh is survived by his wife, Eula Mae; and a daughter, Barbara “Babs” Baugh, of San Antonio.
