    Cal-Maine Foods Inc, the Jackson MS-based producer and marketer of shell eggs, announced results for its first quarter of fiscal 2005 ended Aug 28, 2004.

    For the first quarter of fiscal 2005, net sales were $102.0 million, compared with net sales of $114.4 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2004. The company reported a net loss of $887,000 for the first quarter of fiscal 2005 versus net income of $7.8 million for the same period a year earlier.

    Cal-Maine is the largest producer and distributor of fresh shell eggs in the United States and sells most of its shell eggs in about 28 states.
