Applications under Standard 34 due May 6

April 1, 2002
New or revised applications for refrigerant designation and safety classification under the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning

New or revised applications for refrigerant designation and safety classification under the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 34 should be submitted by May 6, 2002.

ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 34-2001, Designation and Safety Classification of Refrigerants, establishes a simple means of referring to common refrigerants in place of chemical names, formulas, or trade names. It also establishes safety classifications based on toxicity and flammability data.

Applications should be submitted to the Manager of Standards, ASHRAE, 1791 Tullie Circle NE, Atlanta GA 30329. For more information, phone 404-636-8400.

The applications will be reviewed by the toxicity subcommittee, then by the full committee at ASHRAE's annual meeting June 22-26, 2002, in Honolulu HI.

If applications are approved, then the Standard 34 committee would draft and submit the refrigerants for public review as addenda to the standard.
