Volvo Trucks North America Inc plans to adjust production rates at its Dublin VA manufacturing complex, despite the company's increased order board over the past three months.
Industry forecasts project that North American sales in 2000 will be more in line with the totals seen from 1996 through 1998. In order to sustain growth, Volvo Trucks has revised programs and objectives for 2000. Those measures include taking more aggressive actions to expand and accelerate introduction of new business solutions, including new truck models. It also will revise its production schedules for the first and second quarters.
Consequently, a temporary reduction of about 400 employees will occur at Volvo Trucks' Dublin facility. Realignment of production rates and the workforce will take effect in mid-February.
Volvo Trucks' ongoing expansion of its facilities will be unaffected, with a planned completion date of Aug 1, 2000.
