A new 123-page report features a survey-based examination of measuring standards of operating efficiency in public refrigerated warehouses (PRWs). Commissioned by the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW), the 2001 IARW Productivity Benchmarking Report explores selection, organization, interpretation, and use of operating information to:

    • Identify areas for improved productivity.

    • Provide a documented database to measure improvement.

    • Support management decisions.

Sample reports model how information may be organized for best use. Confidential responses from 112 PRW company sites provide the database. To focus on elements more characteristic of specific types of PRW operations (distribution, production, export), parts of the report address these areas in detail.

Included are trends and developments that influence all elements in the frozen/refrigerated food logistics chain. For example, technology such as radio frequency, bar-coding, and real-time Electronic Data Interchange links are all factors. Among elements that combine for a productive PRW, two are stressed: product placement in the facility, and human resources.

Copies may be purchased by non-participating IARW members in the United States for $500; members outside the United States, $250; and non-members, $1,000.

For membership or further information, contact the IARW and the World Food Logistics Organization, 7315 Wisconsin Ave, Suite 1200N, Bethesda MD 20814-3202; phone 301-652-5674; fax 301-652-7269; [email protected]; or visit www.iarw.org.
