Two Erb Group executives receive awards
Vernon Erb, president of The Erb Group of Companies; and Floyd Gerber, its vice-president of human resources; received the Colonel Robert Hardie Award of Lifetime Achievement at the 34th annual National Transportation Week Ontario Awards Breakfast in Toronto, Ontario, Canada recently.
With his wife Viola, Erb launched this business in 1959 with one dump truck. In 1963, he purchased an egg trucking business serving Wellesley and Wilmot townships, carrying eggs to Toronto food giants Loblaws and Dominion. In 1965, he started the refrigerated trucking service that still forms the core of the Erb business.
In 1968, Gerber came to work at Erb Transport as a driver. He drove for the company until 1980, when he became driver supervisor. Gerber next served as training supervisor, vice-president of personnel, and then his current position.
The Erb Group employs more than 1,100 people, and has 800 refrigerated trailers and 600 power units including straight trucks and tractors. It has terminals across Ontario, and in Manitoba and Quebec, and operates into 48 U.S. states.
