Ryder System Inc has honored national winners of the company's Maintenance Excellence Award (MEA) for 2006. The MEA recognizes top-performing maintenance managers for outstanding customer service, maintenance, and safety performance. The award represents Ryder's “Best of the Best.”

Maintenance Manager winners are: Raymond Cote, North New England Business Unit; Marty Davis (three-time winner), Carolinas Business Unit; William Rhoades, Great Plains Business Unit; Michael Steffens, Grand Rapids/Indy Business Unit; and Bill Williams, North Carolina Business Unit.

Branch Maintenance Manager/Supervisor winners are:William Galante (two-time winner), Scarborough, Ontario; and Alan Shaw (three-time winner) Pickering, Ontario.

Service Manager winners are: Nigel Spurgeon (two-time winner) Coventry, London; Jonathan Argoe (three-time winner), North Charleston SC; Keith Brannon (five-time winner), Haleyville AL; Dennis Burns (three-time winner), Spartanburg SC; Billy Covey, Walton Hill OH; Eldon Crouse Jr, Bangor ME; Jack Garrison (two-time winner), Ft Wayne IN; Daniel Greeley Jr, Lebanon NH; John Hanley (three-time winner), Mifflintown PA; Bobby Jones (two-time winner), Lebanon TN; Mark Kyler (three-time winner), Falconer NY; Jason McLain, Bangor ME; Joseph Mills, Gurnee IL; Jimmy Mitschele, Lebanon MO; Jerry Ray (two-time winner), Tucson AZ; Donald Slaughter (two-time winner), Zanesville OH; James Southard (five-time winner), Massillon OH; Dewayne Vintson, Rainbow City AL; Sidney Volking, Booneville MS; Michael Waybright, Newington VA, and Raymond Westcott, Rome NY.

Three Maintenance Excellence scholarship awards, totaling $10,000, were also presented to further the education of relatives of Ryder employees. The $5,000 scholarship was awarded to Joshua Stanton of Urbana OH. The $3,000 scholarship was awarded to Danielle Harman of Nitro WV, and the $2,000 scholarship went to Tracey Alford of Oxford GA.
