CPX Boosts Pay Rate For Leased Operators

Coastal Pacific Xpress Inc (CPX) of Cloverdale, British Columbia, Canada, is increasing the pay rate for all leased operators, effective October 2001. The new rate is a substantial increase over the previous competitive pay scale, and CPX says it is likely the highest verifiable mileage rate paid among established major carriers in Western Canada.

Now the pay for most CPX owner-operators will be $1.20 per loaded mile between British Columbia and Alberta, for example, and even higher for shorter hauls like Vancouver to Kelowna at $1.28 per mile.

The company has also instituted a policy to address the desire for scheduled runs for drivers with sufficient seniority; in CPX's typical case, less than one year of service. This puts at least 65% of the Canadian fleet on fixed miles each month. CPX fleets average more than 11,000 miles per month year-round.
