Navistar International has launched the enhanced I-6 diesel engine line that packs the power and durability of comparably rated engines weighing hundreds of pounds more. At 1,425 pounds, the International 530E and DT 466E family of in-line, six-cylinder units displace 8.7 liters. A precision electronic fuel system works in tandem with improvements in air management to provide performance and power.
With these engines, International uses technology to optimize air and fuel management, such as waste-gated turbocharging, Split-Shot fuel injection, and Diamond Logic Electronic Controls. Features of the I-6 engine family extend engine life, reducing cost of ownership. Enhancements include a common bore size; large intake valves for improved airflow; short stroke for lower piston speed; optimized power cylinder, crankcase, and crankshaft; and piston cooling designs all generated from computer modeling and simulation systems. These designs have been field-tested.
The I-6 engine models come standard with the Diamond Logic Electronic Controls to improve engine performance and allow engine products to integrate with International dealer support systems. Engines incorporate the HEUI (hydraulically actuated, electronically controlled unit injection) fuel system, with SplitShot fuel injection, a two stage injection process that reduces emissions and noise. The electro-hydraulic system constantly adjusts to demands of engine speeds and load conditions throughout the entire operating range to deliver the precise amount of fuel for maximum power and efficiency, while maintaining emissions compliance.
International I-6 engine models now are more serviceable to maximize driver uptime, with features such as long-life, coolant-compatible components that extend maintenance intervals.
