Landec Corp’s food subsidiary, Apio Inc, has entered into an agreement with Caito Foods Service Inc of Indianapolis IN to regionally process, package, and distribute Apio’s specialty packaged fresh-cut vegetable products.

At the Indianapolis facility Caito will manufacture a number of Apio’s vegetable trays under the Eat Smart brand. According to AC Nielsen data for the quarter ended June 30, 2004, Apio remains the number one vegetable tray manufacturer in the nation.

The additional manufacturing location will provide logistical benefits to customers in the Midwest and eastern United States, who can expect faster product delivery times and shorter replenishment cycles.

This agreement with Caito complements and augments Apio’s planned multi-phase expansion underway to add more than 40% processing capacity to its Guadalupe CA facility.
