Roundy’s Inc, a Milwaukee WI-based food wholesaler retailer and wholesaler, plans to shut its Eldorado IL and Evansville IN distribution centers in September, terminating 252 jobs. The firm says this action is aimed at refocusing its distribution network to save money in purchasing, transportation, and other operational areas.
The Eldorado distribution facility has 170 employees, and the Evansville site has 82. Roundy’s will continue to operate from a network of five distribution centers, including a new 1.1 million-square-foot facility being constructed in Oconomowoc WI and expected to open in 2005. It will replace the firm’s Wauwatosa WI distribution center. Roundy’s will transfer 750 workers from Wauwatosa to the Oconomowoc facility.
In other news, Ultra Mart Foods Inc, a subsidiary of Roundy’s, has agreed to acquire all the retail grocery stores owned by McAdams Inc. This includes seven Pick ’n Save grocery stores in Mukwonago, Muskego, New Berlin, Oconomowoc, Sussex, and Wales WI. This transaction is subject to regulatory approvals.
