Carrier Transicold and Thermo King showed their latest truck and trailer refrigeration units at Expo Transporte 2000 held November 15 through 17 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. It was the fourth annual exhibition in Guadalajara, sponsored by ANPACT, the Mexican association of truck and bus manufacturers.

Here are some of the new refrigeration units, and refrigerated trailers and trucks on display at the Expo.

Carrier Transicold introduced the new Xarios 400 and Xarios 500 truck-engine-driven refrigeration units at Expo Transporte 2000 in Guadalajara. The Xarios units replace Carrier Transicold's Zephyr 30S (known as the Integra in the United States). Charged with R-404A, the Xarios can handle temperatures as low as -20 C (-4 F). The units can heat up to 30 C (86 F). Nose-mounted Xarios condensers are installed with separate two-fan or three-fan evaporator modules that are sleek and lightweight, extending only 194 mm (7.6 inches) down from the truck ceiling. They can be used with remote evaporators for multi-temp applications. Cab Command digital controls are standard. The units are targeted specifically to Latin America, where the truck and trailer markets are growing rapidly, say Jose Acosta and Rodrigo Chavez of Carrier Transicold.

This International 4900 truck has an Amher refrigerated body made of light steel with white aluminum exterior lining and is equipped with a Thermo King TS-300 unit. Amher, based in Gomez Palacio, Durango, manufactures refrigerated truck bodies from 7 to 26 feet long and refrigerated trailers from 30 to 48 feet long.

Utility built this 53-ft trailer for Transportes Calafia SA de CV. The multitemp trailer has a gross weight rating of 88,000 lb. Insulation is 2.5 inches in the sidewalls, three inches in the floor, roof, and rear door, and four inches in the front wall. It is equipped with a Thermo King SB-III TCI Whisper Edition unit and uses a Donovan bifold bulkhead to divide freezer and chilled compartments.

New trailer sales in Mexico increased to about 900 units in 2000, including 400 reefers, up from practically none three years ago, say Dan Hartley, Kit Hammond, John Schmidt, and Manuel Barrientos, of Great Dane. Trailers must be equipped for Mexico's harsher road conditions, they say. Their display trailer has 2.5 inches of insulation in the walls, three inches in the roof, floor, and rear door, and four inches in the front wall. It has aluminum duct floors and is equipped with Hendrickson HK250 heavy-duty air suspension, Grote LED lights, and a new Thermo King SB-300 unit.

This Ider aluminum low-temp refrigerated body, equipped with a Thermo King TS-200 unit, was installed on a Ford F-450 XL Super Duty truck. Ider builds truck bodies made of aluminum, fiberglass, and galvanized steel.
