After July 20, 2004, new drivers must be trained before they can legally drive; drivers with less than one year of experience must be trained by Oct 18, 2004.

To assist fleets in complying with the regulations, efleetmgmt inc has teamed up with the Maryland Motor Truck Association and Jack Burkert, industry safety expert, to produce a training package to guide fleet trainers and supervisors though required elements of the entry-level training.

In an easy-to-use format, using PowerPoint slides adaptable to print or transparency use, the program covers the mandatory training topics: wellness, fatigue, qualification, and the whistle-blower provisions in the law. The Department of Transportation estimates this is a 10-hour training course, and using the student handbook, instructor manual, slides, suggested lecture points, and program-generated discussion points, drivers are provided a learning opportunity.

The entire training package is available for $79; two versions are available, bus and truck. The program is offered via e-mail, CD-ROM, or a print version for an extra $50.
