Peterbilt's Model 379 is nearing the end of its 20-year run. The final 1,000 units produced will be commemorated with a special Legacy Class Edition, Peterbilt Motors Co announced.

The Legacy Class Edition is limited to the extended-hood, 127-inch BBC configuration. It is provided as a day cab or with a full range of Unibilt sleepers. It is available for order from Peterbilt dealerships and can be configured to customer specifications regarding drivetrain, axles, suspensions, and other components.

As a replacement, Peterbilt will offer the new Model 389 that has key styling elements of the Model 379 while incorporating new advanced technologies and refinements for improved aerodynamics.

The Model 389 features a new, lightweight, and durable aluminum hood, a new one-piece aluminum surround with a punched-oval pattern grille and polished aluminum grille bars, polished-aluminum fender reinforcements, innovative headlamps, and a new aerodynamic hood ornament.

Peterbilt also will offer the Model 388, which has many of the same features, but with a shorter wheelbase.
