Diesel motor oil is undergoing a significant change to meet new emissions standards that take effect in 2007. There are 10 industry engine tests and six lab bench tests that oils must pass to qualify for the new performance category. Each test is designed to evaluate specific attributes of the oil and to measure its performance. Shell expects to meet the higher PC-10 standard ahead of the anticipated October effective date.
Shell has already developed oil products for use in other parts of the world that have similar requirements to PC-10. Shell is using this expertise to develop products to meet the new standards in North America. The Shell development team is committed to completing the new oil formulation for Shell ROTELLA T over the next few months. The firm already has hundreds of thousands of miles of testing with its new formulation technology in on-highway 2007 model and current engine technologies.
