Cascade Energy Inc and Americold have established a three-year strategic partnership focused on reducing energy use and related costs in Americold’s cold storage facilities. As part of this partnership, Cascade will provide energy management services for 132 Americold refrigerated warehouses in the United States.

“By working with the largest temperature-controlled warehousing company in the world, we have an opportunity to have a sweeping impact on the food storage and distribution industry,” said Marcus Wilcox, president of Cascade Energy. “In addition to helping Americold effectively manage and reduce operating costs and increase the energy efficiency of its facilities, we hope to inspire others to consider implementing comprehensive energy management strategies.”

For select warehouses owned and operated by Americold, Cascade will provide monitoring, utility bill analysis, reporting, and web-based dashboard applications. Americold also has the option to tap additional Cascade services, such as facility tune-ups, system optimization, capital studies, and coordination with local utility companies to maximize incentive programs.

“Improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of our warehouses is a strategic goal of Americold,” said Fred Walker, vice-president of engineering at Americold. “We have worked extensively with Cascade in the past. They’re the best at what they do, and we’re thrilled to have them as our energy management partner.”

Cascade has provided energy consultation and services to the cold chain industry since 1993. The company’s services include energy project development, management, and implementation; energy incentive program consultation; and energy studies that provide investment-grade information. Cascade also offers facility tune-ups: intensive, multiday reviews of a system or facility with the goal of cutting energy use by 5% to 15% with minimal investment.

Both Americold and Cascade are affiliated with the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW), part of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA). Americold is an active member of IARW, while Cascade is the exclusive Energy Management Service Partner of GCCA. GCCA members consist of 345 public refrigerated warehouse (PRW) companies, 1012 facilities, 80 construction companies, 112 transportation companies, and 387 suppliers to the greater cold storage industry.
